Rob Vilar, the most criminally unknown actor who has walked the planet Earth. Salvaged from a dumpster near the National Screen Institute’s offices in Winnipeg, this video is the seminal preface to this man and his evolving craft. A pandemonium of film clips and reenactments celebrate the origins of Vilar’s artistic ingenuity, while a portrait of Winnipeg and its underground enterprises are epitomized. At last, we have a star!

Rhayne Vermette is an artist from Winnipeg, Manitoba. Severely interested in images and animation which confront architectural conventions, her practice is rooted in notions of decadence and the indeterminate. Favouring the experimental, her 16mm films confront documentary form, often merging the insipid within the surreal. Self-taught, and of starving artist quality, Rhayne has had her films screened across the globe, including the Chicago Underground Film Festival, Images Film Festival, the European Media Arts Festival, and on and on. Rhayne has programmed for Open City Cinema, The Winnipeg Underground Film Festival, and the Lausanne Underground Film Festival. She currently sits on the programming board of WNDX.
